Case Study: Permanent Signage
Advance Auto Parts embarked on a two-year campaign to remodel its stores’ interiors. Their new aesthetic would feature permanent displays and signage décor to highlight key departments and customer support stations.
The challenge for Advance Auto Parts was to procure the resources needed to implement the program in a timely manner. With an extensive store network of over 3,500 locations, the company needed a cohesive, consistent look throughout its retail store environments. The permanent décor needed to be adaptable to various store environments and designed for quick and easy installation. Implementing the program required cooperation from many key stakeholders.
Advance Auto Parts (AAP) went with a single supplier, Imagine!, to manage every aspect of its permanent décor program, including: creative, sourcing, production, delivery, installation and maintenance.
Together, Imagine! and AAP outlined a comprehensive implementation plan. The design team at Imagine! created a catalog of displays and signage to be produced for all AAP stores. From our supplier network, we sourced materials needed for the permanent fixtures, and our structural design team made custom hardware to marry with the printed material. A unique channel system was created for the majority of the signage providing easy installation and quick-change capabilities.
The in-store materials included:
- Perimeter signage
- Battery and oil station department signage
- Hanging sickle sign
- Service station display
Multiple substrates were used in the production of the signage and displays including SBS, styrene and magnetic receptive material. And of course, Imagine! matched AAP color across all substrates.
An installation team provided the necessary set-up of the permanent décor. Rescue kits were created to equip the install team with additional supplies, preventing any unnecessary schedule changes. As stores were retrofitted, a call center program was introduced to fulfill extra material orders from the field.
Imagine! successfully managed the production and installation of AAP’s permanent décor program in one of its largest re-branding efforts. The team at Imagine! followed through on a speedy, three-month turnaround of creative design and program planning, which was crucial to keep it on a fast track to implementation. Advance Auto Parts saw a rapid, positive response to store retrofits and experienced substantial savings in shipping expenses via Imagine!’s innovative kitting techniques.
